เป็นคำ Idiom ในภาษาอังกฤษที่แปลว่า ปลอบประโลมใจ

Tea and Symphathy แรกเริ่มเป็นชื่อ ละครบรอดเวย์ ที่มีชื่อเสียง ดัดแปลงจากหนังสือนิยายของ Robert Anderson ที่แสดงโดย Joan Fountain และ Anthony Perkins และนักแสดงอีกหลายคน ต่างล้วนประสพความสำเร็จจากเวทีการแสดงละครเรื่องนี้ อันเป็นเนื้อหาสะท้อนความไม่เท่าเทียมทางเพศกันที่เกิดขึ้นในสังคมอเมริกันยุค 50 โดยเฉพาะเรื่องของ Homosexuality

ภายหลังได้ถูกนำมาสร้างเป็นภาพยนต์ ที่กลายเป็นภาพยนต์คลาสสิกอีกเรื่องหนึ่ง

และแน่นอนจะเป็นละคร หรือภาพยนต์ก็ต้องมีเพลงประกอบ เพื่อให้ตัวละครได้ประโลมใจแก่ผู้ชมบ้าง ไม่มีอะไรจะเลิศล้ำไปกว่านี้ในโลกของการแสดง

ข้าพเจ้าเห็นว่ามีบทเพลงชื่อเดียวกันนี้จากผลงานหลากหลาย ของศิลปินต่างยุคสมัย หลายคนที่เดียว แต่ละชิ้นงานก็ล้วนเป็นผลงานที่ซาบซึ้งตรึงใจผู้ฟังทั้งสิ้น แต่ที่ดูน่าจะประทับใจที่สุดน่าจะเป็น ผลงานเพลงของ Janis Ian
